Cellfina Launch Presentation

As you’ve been told already, Cellfina for cellulite is here and we have been kicking off to a great start with our patients!  We’ve done a number of procedures so far, and our patients have been pleasantly surprised as to how quick and easy it is….and so have we!  If you’re interested in learning more about the procedure, join us this Thursday, January 28th from 6-8pm as Dr. Roz leads the presentation about the Cellfina treatment and hosts a Q&A session. Light refreshments will be served! Please RSVP to our office by calling 910-256-4350 or email us; office@wilmingtondermatologycenter.com.

Cellfina is a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure for cellulite.  Cellfina is FDA approved and has the longest patient satisfaction rating of any other cellulite treatment on the market!. WDC has been selected as one of the few practices in the United States to be offered this new and innovative device and we couldn’t be more excited to begin treatments!  Perfect timing before bathing suit season to take care of pesky cellulite once and for all.

How is this procedure different from other devices?  For starters…it actually works!  Unlike other cellulite treatments, Cellfina treats the structural cause of cellulite resulting in smooth results. Cellfina has taken the typical surgical procedure known as subcision, and has automated the process in order to eliminate the guesswork and risks associated with the surgical subscision procedure.

Can’t make this date this Thursday? We are hosting this event again on February 10th from 12-1pm and on February 11th from 6-8pm!

Clear + Brilliant: The name says it all

Although summer is sadly coming to an end, we still have some warm sunny days ahead of us.  Most of us are probably looking in the mirror right now thinking, what can I do to address the sun damage from the summer months and give my skin a boost?  Developed by Solta, the pioneers of laser technology, Clear + Brilliant is one of our favorite non-invasive maintenance lasers to refresh and bring back your radiant skin.  Clear + Brilliant is the perfect compliment to your skincare products when it is still too sunny outside to risk treatment from more corrective lasers like Fraxel.

Clear + Brilliant is a gentle fractionated laser treatment that is used to refresh the skin and give you a healthier tone, texture,  overall glow, and pore size reduction.  It’s an excellent alternative if your are  looking to prevent damage before it starts, or add it to your skincare regimen as maintenance.  Clear + Brilliant is designed to deliver precise and comfortable energy to stimulate a refreshing boost to the skin, while ensuring consistent results.

How does it work? With advanced technology, the Clear + Brilliant laser energy creates millions of microscopic treatment zones in your skin, replacing damaged skin with healthy, younger looking tissue.

How do I know if Clear + Brilliant is right for me?

  • You already have or plan to begin a skin care regimen to help protect against the natural and environmental effects of aging
  • You like the way your skin looks today, and want to keep that fresh, youthful look for years to come
  • You have a regular, consistent approach to skincare and are looking to boost your results
  • You don’t have the time or desire for more invasive procedures like cosmetic surgery or aggressive resurfacing treatments

With simple, gentle laser treatments provided by our licensed aestheticians, you can help prevent the visible signs of aging and the overall dulling effects time and the environment can have on your skin.

Still unsure if Clear + Brilliant is right for you?  Schedule a free consultation with one of our providers or our cosmetic coordinator to discuss your skincare goals and where your money is better spent!

Clinical Research: Now Enrolling

At Wilmington Dermatology Center, we are not only patient focused on an everyday level, but we also thinks it’s so important to sustain and develop new and improved ways to treat chronic skin conditions.  WDC plays a large role in the clinical research side of Dermatology as well, and we have an entire department dedicated growing our knowledge and treatment options.

WDC is currently involved in active research programs including Psoriasis (Various types), Rosacea, Atopic Dermatitis, and Hidradenitis Suppurativa.  We are urrebtly recruiting for patients with these pesky skin disorders.

For those of you unfamiliar with these types of skin conditions, or may think you have one, here’s a brief overview on each condition:

There are five types of psoriasis. The most common form, plaque psoriasis, appears as raised, red patches covered with a silvery white buildup of dead skin cells. Psoriasis can occur on any part of the body and is associated with other serious health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and depression.

Rosacea is a chronic and potentially life-disruptive disorder primarily of the facial skin, often characterized by flare-ups and remissions. Many have observed that it is typically redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead that may come and go. In some cases, rosacea may also occur on the neck, chest, scalp or ears. Over time, the redness tends to become ruddier and more persistent, and visible blood vessels may appear.

Atopic dermatitis, which is a type of eczema, is very common. It occurs equally in males and females and affects an estimated 9 to 30 percent of people in the United States. Although atopic dermatitis may occur at any age, it most often begins in infancy and childhood. Onset after age 30 is less common and is often caused by exposure of the skin to harsh or wet conditions. It causes itchy skin that is red, warm, and tender.

Hidradenitis is a chronic skin condition that features pea-sized to marble-sized lumps under the skin. Also known as acne inversa, these deep-seated lumps typically develop where skin rubs together — such as the armpits, groin, between the buttocks and under the breasts.

If you’re interested in learning more or think you may qualify as a candidate for any of the above studies, contact our office today!  We would love for you to be a part of our growing knowledge in the research world and give you the chance to get free treatment and compensation for your time!

Identifying Psoriasis vs. Dry Skin

“I’m noticing little bumps and dry patches on my son’s arms. Is this psoriasis?”  “My skin is very dry and it itches, do I have psoriasis?”   Many of us wonder, especially during the winter months, if our dry skin is in fact psoriasis.  Chances are you know someone with psoriasis. It’ a common skin condition affecting 3% of the population.  We would like to share the tell tale signs of identifying psoriasis vs. dry skin.

Psoriasis starts as small red bumps that enlarge and become scaly.  Key symptoms to look for are:

  • Red lesions that are sometimes covered with silvery-white scales.
  • Rashes in the folds of the skin.
  • Joint pain, swelling or stiffness.
  • Discolored or crumbly nails.

Dry Skin is simply skin that looks dehydrated.  It may even appear flaky and cracked like the back of an alligator.  Dry skin is typically found on the arms and lower legs.

Now keep in mind psoriasis causes dry skin but a good way to tell the difference is to look for the raised red lesions covered with silvery-white scales, or dead skin cells.   Skin affected by psoriasis may also burn or feel itchy and tender.   Psoriasis is a chronic, long-term, skin condition that causes your skin cells to grow too quickly .  This results in the silvery-white scales or pacthes of skin.  If you think you may have psoriasis or know someone who does, make sure that you or your loved one are getting screened by a capable physician and contact our office to schedule your next appointment.

Wilmington Dermatology Center’s Top Picks for Winter Skin Care

Wilmington Dermatology Center’s Top Picks for Winter Skin Care:

As the winter temperature edges its way down the thermometer, be sure you are prepared with the right winter skin care products to maintain a healthy glow.  Cold, windy and dry air can be brutal to your skin, causing increased dryness to your face, body, lips and hands. As always, the #1 rule is to moisturize!

Ask the expert; what are Dr. Roz’s picks for top winter skincare products? For the face, neck and décolleté, she loves SkinMedica’s Dermal Repair Cream for the deep moisture it provides and Cerave cream for the body and hands to help keep dry skin at bay. You can pick up these products at Wilmington Dermatology Center.

Infuse your skin with the extra moisture it needs. A natural moisturizer can be found in your kitchen pantry and it tastes good too! Extra Virgin Olive Oil works wonders for the skin when it comes to moisturizing, as well as maintaining the skin’s elasticity, due to the antioxidants it contains. Olive Oil can be found in a wide variety of skin care products.  Don’t forget your lips and hands! Keep a tube of lip balm on you at all times along with a small tube of hand cream. Be sure your lip balm contains lanolin which is a natural moisturizer with powerful emollient and protective properties.

Let’s not forget sunscreen! Despite the darker, cloudy skies that winter brings, sunscreen is still an essential item that should be used on a daily basis. Even if it’s not sunny, UV protection should be considered one of your daily skin care regimen products.  Wilmington Dermatology Center recommends an SPF30 or higher with UVA/UVB protection.  SkinCeuticals and SkinMedica sunscreen products are an excellent source of protection from the sun’s harmful rays and can be purchased here at WDC.

When it comes to winter skin care products and protection, Wilmington Dermatology Center has got you covered!
