Sunburns: Advice from the Pro

It’s that time of the year where exposure to the sun is almost unavoidable.  From the beach, to the boat, to a walk outdoors, protection is KEY to keeping healthy skin.  Today we’re going to discuss what steps you can take if you do have a hiccup and end up with a sunburn.

First, lets start with the BEST thing to do.  DON’T get sunburned.  There are so many stylish options for protective clothing, umbrellas to sit under, and fancy hats to shade your face.  DO apply broad spectrum spf 30 sunscreen, apply 20 minutes before sun exposure and don’t forget to re-apply every 2 hours. Look for one that is water resistant for 80 minutes.

We all know the horrible tender and tight feeling of a sunburn.  One thing you can use to help the uncomfortableness of it is to take ibuprofen for the pain and swelling.

Another thing that will definitely help soothe your skin is an oatmeal bath, or just a cool wash cloth to the affected areas.  Aloe Vera gel, especially kept in the fridge,  can also provide relief from uncomfortable burns.

SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Masque and/or Phyto Corrective Gel are perfect to help soothe and reduce visual redness after a fun day in the sun as well!

Phyto Corrective Masque is a calming masque that soothes and replenishes the skin. It cools on contact, comforts skin sensitivity, and restores natural radiance and smoothness.

Phyto Corrective Gel is a moisturizing gel that hydrates, comforts, and alleviates redness and sensitivity. It gently replenishes moisture and improves the appearance of visual redness while minimizing the appearance of discoloration to boost a brighter and fresher-looking complexion.

Sunburns can increase your risk of skin cancer, which is why it’s so important to be diligent about protecting yourself when you’re out in the sun. Yearly skin checks are highly recommended to make sure there are no suspicious spots that should be addressed by a professional.
