We know it’s a little early for Christmas gifts, but we have a gift for those of you who have been waiting for something new to add to your skin rejuvenation toolbox. We are so excited to be adding the micro-needling Collagen P.I.N. to our practice! This is the prefect addition for those of you who are looking for that in between treatment. The Collagen P.I.N. falls somewhere in the middle of a corrective laser, like Fraxel, and more of a maintenance laser, like Clear and Brilliant. If you aren’t crazy about lasers in general, the Collagen P.I.N. is a great alternative if you’re looking to help tighten and lift skin, while minimizing common skin problems such as acne scars, fine lines, photo-aging, dull skin, poor texture, stretch marks and body scars.
How exactly does it work? P.I.N., which stands for Percutaneous Induction Needling is a method of introducing a controlled wound into the skin triggering a release of natural growth factors, new collagen & elastin. This process causes much less damage to the epidermis than dermal rolling or lasers and other ablative treatments, which helps to protect the new skin cell growth providing for quicker healing and a much higher success rate for overall and longer lasting results.
What is the treatment like? We apply a topical numbing on the desired treatment area for an hour prior to the procedure. Your healthcare professional performing the procedure will then thoroughly clean the treatment area and apply a thin layer of topical serum to your skin. This helps the needle glide smoothly over your skin, as well as, penetrate the product into the deeper lasers of skin allowing the rebuilding process to begin immediately. The appropriate treatment depth based on your unique needs will be selected. In a single motion, the Collagen P.I.N. will be gently glided across the skin in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. Your provider will also give you products to take home with you and use. It’s important to use the products to help trigger the growth factors and take advantage of the penetration depth provided by the Collagen P.I.N. treatment.
Why we love it? The Collagen P.I.N. is highly versatile in that is allows us to treat different areas of the body at different depths, depending on skin thickness. The best part is, it isn’t limited to just your face and neck. This makes it highly customizable to each patient whether they’re looking to treat a body scar, full face and neck, or even stretch marks!
Who is a good candidate? One of the awesome things about the P.I.N. is that it can be used on all skin types on any part of the body. That’s right….NO restrictions!
Is there downtime? While there isn’t the week of downtime experienced with a Fraxel treatment, the Collagen P.I.N. does have 1-2 days of redness associated with it, which is a little longer than the Clear and Brilliant treatment. We would compare the downtime to be more comparable to a chemical peel.
How many Collagen P.I.N. treatments will I need? Typically a series of 3-6 Collagen P.I.N. treatments is recommended, depending upon your area of correction or concern. Your skincare professional will ultimately determine a treatment schedule based on your individual goals and desires. Treatments are usually spaced in 4 week intervals. Patients with deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks, or any type of scars, usually require 6 or more treatments to achieve the desired results.
Does the procedure hurt? Since we apply the topical numbing cream prior to the procedure, most people describe the treatment as tolerable with slight discomfort in more sensitive areas.
